If you can’t cover them, maybe we can find a broker who can
The primary aim of a BIBA broker is to help consumers and businesses access suitable insurance protection. BIBA is passionate about helping people and businesses find their way to this expert help.
Underwriters and intermediaries have differing appetites to provide cover for different risk. Some people and business need specialist cover and this is sometimes in limited supply.
BIBA advocates Signposting and particular has cross-sector agreements in place for; older people seeking motor or travel insurance, people with medical conditions seeking travel or protection insurance and those in flood areas looking home insurance to make their search easier.
We see signposting as a win win situation. If you can’t help a customer but know that another provider can, point them in that direction. If you don’t know a suitable provider point them to our Find Insurance Service on 0370 950 1790 to be put in contact with a BIBA broker. Though you can’t help the customer, their journey continues and they could find help.
Insurance brokers can provide advice and access a wide range of insurance providers to help find solutions for all types of insurance needs, including the most difficult of risks.
Whatever type of insurance you need to find, BIBA can connect you with a broker who can help.

Signposting
An Agreement on Age and Insurance
A successful signposting Agreement launched between the Government, BIBA and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in April 2012 has led to more than a decade of of help for older consumers who needed travel or motor insurance. In August 2023 the Agreement was renewed once again and BIBA passed 1,000,000 enquiries made to our Find Insurance Service.
Travelling with medical conditions
Since April 2021, consumers who are offered a travel insurance policy with a £100 or more additional premium due to a medical condition, are declined cover, are offered a policy with an exclusion that cannot be removed or have a policy cancelled because of their medical conditions must be pointed towards a specialist directory to find help.
FCA rules aim to help consumers with more serious pre-existing medical conditions more easily access travel insurance and insurance providers will have to signpost customers that they cannot help to an FCA accredited directory such as the BIBA’s Travel Medical Directory to find specialist insurance brokers who can help them.
Protection insurance – helping those with a medical condition or disability
We have produced a guide, with our Access to Insurance Committee, to help provide guidance for people attempting to get protection insurance if they have a medical condition or disabilities.
We have also worked with stakeholders to deliver an agreement to improve access for those with a medical condition or disability who are looking for protection insurance.
Specialist protection brokers can be found on our Find Insurance Service on 0370 950 1790.
Armed Forces
To help members of the Armed Forces access suitable insurance protection, BIBA has identified members that can commit to providing more flexibility in the insurance arrangements for service personnel and their families.
You can read about how BIBA members are responding to the needs of our Armed Forces.
Armed Forces Covenant
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
The government is committed to supporting the armed forces community by working with a range of partners who have signed the covenant. The covenant is a national responsibility involving government, businesses, local authorities, charities and the public.

Helping homes at risk of flood
Flood Insurance Directory
BIBA, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and Flood Re have collaborated to help more householders who are struggling to obtain flood cover access the insurance they need. A directory has been launched of specialist flood insurance providers that people may use to find cover.
Real life signposting experiences
In 2023 our Find Insurance Service received around 350,000 enquiries from consumers and businesses looking for insurance. Customers who have nonstandard insurance requirements often believe that they cannot get cover, because standard providers or policies do not meet their needs. However, cover is available from brokers, and below you can read about how our specialist insurance brokers have helped customers to find a wide range of insurance to help provide the protection that they need.
