Industry Claims Working Group

Andrew Gibbons – Chair Industry Claims Working Group
I have chaired the group since it was launched in April 2013. The group is made up of various industry stakeholders, including BIBA members, insurers, loss adjusters, loss assessors, claims advocacy and legal firms. One of the first aims of the group at the time was to support the FCA thematic review on claims.
The group also played a pivotal role in the compilation of BIBA member guides on The Insurance Act 2015 and The Enterprise Act 2016. The present Terms of Reference for the group are:-
- To improve the customer experience of claims
- To promote positive stories surrounding the industry, in particular on claims
The group facilitates opportunities to explore the topical issues on claims more thoroughly. The group’s importance is recognised by and is accessible to the FCA, FOS and Government.
The collaborative efforts of the group have resulted in the production of various claims guides to help both members and their customers. The group also assisted in the development and launch of some cross-industry guidance entitled ‘A Clearer Approach to Disclosure’ that will reduce misunderstandings over what should have been disclosed when cover was taken out and which in some cases will cause a claim to be repudiated or reduced. These latest guides can all be seen on this page.
