Information for our customers about how Highways England is dealing with the COVID19 pandemic
Our roads are a critical part of ensuring life-saving medicine, equipment, supplies and NHS staff can travel around the country to wherever they are needed most, and will play a crucial role in the transport of essential goods to supermarkets, pharmacies, hospitals and other critical services. All of our roads remain open and we are working hard to ensure traffic flows smoothly for all those who still need to travel.
Traffic Officers continue to patrol England’s motorways, attend breakdowns, clear incidents and make sure the roads are as clear as possible, while our Regional Control Centre teams continue providing real-time traffic management around the clock. Our Customer Contact Centre is still available for anybody who needs to report an incident, request help or find out more information about our roads. All of our operational staff who perform a vital role in keeping the country moving are following the strictest hygiene standards and social distancing guidance.
It is important that we continue to invest in the country’s infrastructure, so construction and maintenance schemes continue to go ahead. We are in constant touch with our supply chain to ensure that roadworks only continue where safe procedures can be followed.
We are working closely with the government to help the country through this challenging time and have robust contingency plans in place to ensure all our critical work can continue. We ask all our customers to follow the government’s latest advice and only travel where absolutely necessary, keeping the roads clear for essential users and deliveries. Stay home, save lives.
