Carol, a nature lover in Angus, Scotland, was keen to purchase a stretch of woodland behind her home, described as “a haven for all wildlife,” with the hope of encouraging the return of red squirrels to the area, which is currently a dead spot for the species in Scotland. To move forward, she needed public liability insurance to cover potential risks. But before anything could move forward, she needed to arrange public liability insurance to cover potential risks. That proved more difficult than expected, with Scotland’s “right to roam” laws complicating the process and the holiday season making it even harder to get in touch with insurers.

After struggling to get a response from providers, or being declined, Carol was signposted to BIBA’s Find Insurance Service. To her surprise, she got straight through to a BIBA call handler who could help: “I was utterly startled because somebody actually answered the phone,” she said. “This never happens in the service industry. You usually choose from a number of options, and you start to wish you hadn’t started in the first place”.

Carol, living in a rather remote region with limited internet access, was delighted when the broker offered to send her policy document by post. Within six days, she received her policy, covering all necessary liabilities.

Reflecting on the experience, she was amazed by the level of service: “someone was trying to help me…” She continued, “I was in a state of shock that I could get such a good service so effortlessly. To this day, I just think, oh my God, everybody should know about BIBA.”
