Today BIBA has announced changes to its main Board which consists of three BIBA directors, a non-executive chair and non-executive director and eight BIBA members who also lead the association’s various Advisory Boards.
Carl Evans, chair of professional risks division of Griffiths & Armour, is stepping down as chair of the Large Brokers’ Advisory Board (LBAB) and his place on BIBA’s main board will be taken by Alistair Fraser, international corporate and commercial leader at Marsh, who will also step-up to become chair of LBAB.
On his appointment Fraser said: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Chair of LBAB and taking a seat on the main board of BIBA. I am looking forward to working with my fellow board members to help BIBA advise all relevant stakeholders on the key insurance issues facing its members and their customers. The role of insurance brokers and the importance of the broking industry is critical in an ever more changing, complicated and risk orientated world. I cannot wait to get started!”
Phil Williams, group chief commercial officer & managing director of retail at Clear Group replaces Fraser as deputy chair of the LBAB. He said: “I have always really admired the work BIBA does on behalf of insurance brokers (and their customers) and have found being actively involved thoroughly rewarding. I hope that I can fill Alistair’s shoes well, and I will certainly do my best to represent BIBA’s larger broker members.”
Speaking about the changes, BIBA CEO, Graeme Trudgill added: “I have always been proud that our members play such an active role in the governance of BIBA through our Advisory Boards and in our various committees. Having such influential figures as Alistair and Phil join LBAB has been really beneficial, and I am sure they will continue to make a real difference in their new roles.
“Our structure limits the time that anyone can remain on our boards, and I am always sorry to see brokers stepping down. Carl has given us five years of inspiration, dedication and service as well has helping us to navigate Covid and its fall out. I am delighted he will still be active on the ‘back- benches’ of BIBA sharing his knowledge and experience”.
Evans concluded: “It’s been my great pleasure to have served on LBAB for eight years, and I’ve had a fabulous five years as Chair. LBAB is one of BIBA’s most important advisory boards and I am delighted with the quality of those involved and the passionate debate we have been able to stimulate, that has ultimately led to positive results for members. We have been able to create the spark of many an idea or concept that the fabulous BIBA team have been able to turn into impressive outcomes. Their ability to execute as a small but effective team has always impressed me greatly. Graeme has injected boundless energy and enthusiasm and also as head of recruitment has attracted some great talent to the board. I have been proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with a great team, both BIBA and LBAB remain are in great shape for the future.”
