8th April 2026

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has announced that Andy Burnham will be joining the morning Keynote session and addressing Conference delegates on Wednesday 13 May.

Graeme Trudgill, BIBA CEO said: “It will be great to welcome Andy back to The BIBA Conference. Much has changed in politics and the economy since he last addressed BIBA delegates onstage in 2022, so it will be fantastic to hear his updated plans and objectives for Manchester – our long-standing host city for The BIBA Conference!”

Fresh from the local elections, Andy will share where he sees the opportunities in the region, his calls on Government and how Manchester will capitalise on innovation to deliver jobs and drive growth.

Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said: “The BIBA Conference is a major event that delivers a significant positive impact to Greater Manchester’s local economy, and we’re ready to give a warm welcome to delegates again this year. As well as being an outstanding location to host events at this scale, Greater Manchester is home to the largest professional and financial services sector outside London, which has played a key role in us becoming the UK’s fastest-growing city region. I’m looking forward to joining discussions on the key issues facing the insurance industry and the wider economy.”

First elected Mayor of Greater Manchester in May 2017 Andy was re-elected for a second term in May 2021 and a third in May 2024. Formerly MP for Leigh from 2001, he also held ministerial positions at the Home Office, Department of Health and HM Treasury. In 2008 he became Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, before returning to Health as Secretary of State in 2009. In opposition, Andy has served as Shadow Education Secretary, Shadow Health Secretary and Shadow Home Secretary.

Andy will deliver an opening address and a participate in a fireside chat with Conference host Kay Burley.
