Join us for a tour of Lloyd’s where you will receive a brief history of this world famous institution from its earliest beginnings at Edward Lloyd’s coffee house, to the official opening in 1986 at One Lime Street, the site that Lloyd’s occupies today.
Our tour guide will talk you through how Lloyd’s operates, the development and present-day activities of the market, including how risks are placed; classes of business and examples of risks; the history of the design and development of the building etc, with plenty of opportunity for questions. This is followed by a tour of the building itself including the Adam Room if available, the Nelson Collection, Loss book and Lutine Bell and, of course, an experience of the outside glass lifts. The visits are timed so that visitors can see the underwriting room when it’s busy.
The visit is both enjoyable and educational and a must for anyone working in insurance. There is also plenty of free literature available.
Lloyd’s has a very strict business style dress code – suit and tie or smart jacket, trousers and tie for men, smart business style for women; jeans, trainers etc are not allowed. Photo ID will also be required on the day.
Members may take photographs as long as there’s no flash.
We will meet at BIBA’s offices at 12:45 for lunch and a short presentation& from BIBA (if Lloyd’s tour is at 14:00) or at 10:15 for pastries and a short presentation from BIBA (if Lloyd’s tour is at 11:30) on current activities followed by the Lloyd’s tour.
There is a small charge of £20.00 inclusive of VAT, per person for the tour and lunch/pastries. (Please advise any dietary requirements during the booking process).
Places are limited so if you are interested in attending then please book your place promptly.
Following Lloyd’s we have an additional opportunity for you to visit another distinctive London landmark, the Gherkin. Robertson Low invite you to join them to find out how the business you might send to a Lloyd’s Broker is placed into the London market while enjoying refreshments and a stunning view from the top of this iconic building. Talk to the team and find out what they do on a daily basis, the markets they deal with, how syndicate appetites differ and any other information you’ve always wanted to know to help you feel comfortable about placing business through a Lloyd’s broker.
There is no additional cost for this visit but please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to advise whether you will be able to attend or not. It is expected that this will be an additional 1.5 hours. Final finish time approximately 5pm.
We do hope you are able to join us and look forward to welcoming you.
