Award Criteria

The Young Broker of the Year Award, recognises young brokers for their excellent performance and contribution to broking and aims to encourage commitment to the future professionalism of the insurance industry.

2010 Finalists

The Young Broker of the Year Award for 2010 went to Victoria Parry of Norwich brokers, Hugh J Boswell Ltd. Victoria was recognised for her outstanding achievement for the firm and her passion to win business and help growth.

BIBA Young Broker of the Year Award 2011

The winner for this prestigious award is chosen from a short list of three finalists. The outright winner will receive a prize of £1,500 and the other two finalists will each receive £500.00.

All three finalists will be invited to attend the BIBA conference on the 11 th May 2011 for an official presentation of their certificates of achievement.

Entries to the Young Broker of the Year Award 2011 are judged by industry experts who sit on BIBA's General Insurance Brokers Committee and at the judge's discretion, a number of highly commended certificates will be awarded to other entries of a high standard.

Entry Submission

Entries will be accepted for 2011. Entries should be submitted by the 31 st March 2011

Entry Criteria

- Applicants must be from a BIBA member firm and can be employees, directors or partners.

- Entries should be in the form of a summary between 500 and 1000 words (2 A4 pages) from a line-manager nominating the applicant. You should avoid producing documents in the style of a Curriculum Vitae or Job Description.

- Applicants must be 35 years old or under on date of entry and must have at least three years industry experience.

Award Criteria

Applicant must have tangible evidence of achievement which could broadly fit into any one or more of the following –

Displayed Outstanding Leadership Qualities

e.g. by turning round a moribund situation, opening up a new area successfully or showing leadership skills by problem solving and staff motivation - (As a guide, the judges will award up to 40% for this area of performance.)

Personal Information

Brief details of relevant personal details would also be useful e.g.

Professionalism – professional qualifications – state what level obtained to date and if working towards. List exam modules passed, this is in relation to CII exams'. Also details any other relevant qualifications and grade achieved.

Commitment - engagement the wider business community e.g. BIBA, CII, charity or other outside worthy causes.

(As a guide, the judges will award up to 30% for the Personal Information area of performance.)

General Information 

Compliance - delivered a workable and comprehensive compliance regime that all members of staff bought into, delivered on time and to budget.

Training - was involved in staff training and has a clear record of achievement and improvement in staff performance.

Excellent team spirit or Managing people e.g. helping colleagues in pursuit of their own objectives and their company's target.

Customer focus – work undertaken with the customer specifically in mind and how that has that helped customers.

Increased sales/production -e.g. introduced/oversaw successful profitable and sustainable product or scheme.

Innovation - introduced/oversaw an initiative that saved money/expense and made a real difference to the bottom line.

(As a guide, the judges will award up to 30% from the General Information section. You do not need to cover each area stated, as the topics are suggested areas only and your entry should be based on the relevant facts about the candidate.)
