BIBA comment on Consumer Council Insurance report

Commenting on the Consumer Council’s report into the cost of insurance in Northern Ireland, Peter Staddon, BIBA Head of Technical Services said:

'It is very important that consumers do not purchase their insurance protection by comparing the price of policies alone.  All policies are different and provide different levels of protection.  Purchasing a cheaper policy can be a false economy, which could leave consumers without adequate protection.

“I suggest that in addition to price, consumers also consider the levels of cover, excess and the policy exclusions.  The report found that the main source for buying insurance in Northern Ireland is via an insurance broker so I urge consumers to speak to their broker who will compare all aspects of a number of policies on their behalf."

BIBA is committed to working with the Consumer Council on the issues raised in the report.
